Dear Future Me,
Whatever you are doing right now, I want you to stop and listen to I Wonder by Kanye West. Maybe just listen to the entire Graduation album. It’s taken me about a week to actually finish this letter, because I have no idea what to write. I’ve spent way more time considering what my future will actually be like. I imagine things will go one of two ways. I become a writer, producing shows for Netflix or Hulu. Maybe I even have my own version of Netflix or Hulu dedicated to diverse shows and movies. I finally get that penthouse I’ve always wanted overlooking Central Park in New York. I’m probably dating some arty-ish guy who I haven’t committed to, because I’m too committed to my job. I also have a bougie Boston Terrier named Sir Jovi, who travels the world with me. Life is seemingly perfect. In the alternate version of my future, I’m either a novelist or full-time blogger. I probably teach English at the local college as well, or I’ll eventually decide to. I’ll be married, and I’m assuming it’s a happy marriage if someone decides to commit to a lifetime of fake laughing at my horrible jokes. I’ll have some very sassy children, and I’m sure I’ll name one of them Cara Vann. I’ll finally have that blue 1965 Mustang I’ve always wanted. I’ll still travel the world, and I’m sure I’ll still have by bougie Boston Terrier by my side. Still, life is seemingly perfect. Maybe my future life will feature a little bit of both versions. Either way, I hope you find your dreams. This year has been a year of growth. I can feel myself changing, but I have no idea who I will ultimately become. These past few months, I’ve been working hard to ensure that you won’t be disappointed. Every day, I try to do something you’ll thank me for. There are three simple things that I want. I want you to become the best version of yourself, but also understand that everything is life is constantly evolving. You will never be the same person you were yesterday. I want you to find happiness within yourself. Don’t worry about what everyone else wants, or what makes others happy. What makes you happy? I want you to enjoy whatever version of the future life brings me. The most important thing is that you are surrounded by people you love, who genuinely love you in return. I hope you are able to finally know what it means to find your dreams.
